Chakras: How to Connect With Them, Identify Imbalances, and Heal and Realign Your Energy

Chakra lights in the woods

WTF! It’s Witchy Topic Friday and today we’re talking about Chakras. This is part 3 of a 4 part introduction to the energy body, its components, and why it's important to your craft as a witch. In our last post we discussed auras - what they are, what they do, and how you can practice seeing them. In this post you will learn more about the chakras: what they are, some symptoms that can present themselves when the individual chakras are imbalanced or blocked, and some basic methods for connecting with and healing them for a healthier energy body.

What are the chakras?

The chakras are like the organs for your energy body through which your energy flows. In fact, each chakra is associated with specific physical organs and, just like each of your physical body's organs has its own unique function for sustaining the health of your entire physical body, so do each of your chakras. Therefore, a specific kind of emotional or spiritual experience will determine which chakra is used to process the energy or where a blockage might occur if not processed healthily or completely. Because of each chakras' association with a physical organ in the body, physical symptoms can manifest in those organs as a result of its associated chakra being blocked. In simpler terms, your chakras process your emotional and spiritual experiences and, when emotional or spiritual wounds present themselves and are not healed properly, chakra blockages can occur which can present themselves in mental, emotional, spiritual, and even physical ways.

How can I tell if I have a chakra imbalance or blockage?

Chakra blockages of any degree will present themselves in a variety of mental, emotional, spiritual, and even physical ways. Things like depression, loneliness, addiction, digestive issues, heart problems, back pain, headaches, anxiety, self-hatred, stress, skin issues, shame - and so much more - can all be attributed to a chakra blockage that likely was the result of some sort of life experience that was never fully or healthily processed. I bet that if you take a moment right now and self-reflect, you will be able to identify at least one to three symptoms - mental, emotional, spiritual, or physical - that you've been dealing with for a long time but have yet to overcome. Perhaps you already know the root cause of it, perhaps you don't. In either case, chakra healing work can be greatly beneficial to you in treating whatever it is you've identified. Once you've identified a symptom, you need to identify which chakra has likely been affected. From there, you can begin your work to connect with that chakra and heal and release what is keeping it from functioning optimally so your energy can flow freely once again.

How can I heal my chakras once I've identified a blockage?

The first step to chakra healing is connecting with your energy. A very simple method for doing this is found in a book called Chakra Healing by Margarita Alcantara. If you're interested in learning more about the chakras, I highly recommend it as a starting point. You can buy it here on Amazon (this is not a paid link). Margarita says that in order "to get in touch with your energy, hold your hands one inch apart, palms facing each other". In doing so, notice the energy between your hands which, as Margarita describes, is felt as a sense of warmth. She warns that you don't worry if you feel nothing at first. It isn't uncommon to need more practice when first trying to connect with your energy body. With practice, however, you'll be able to feel this warming energy between your hands even when your hands are spread much further apart.

To proceed with chakra healing, there are a variety of methods and tools you can incorporate such as behavioral or lifestyle changes, adjusting your diet, practicing meditation or yoga, and using things like crystals and essential oils. Additionally, professional services such as Reiki, acupuncture, and psychological therapy can all be extremely useful for energy healing depending on your individual needs. Here is a list of the chakras from head to toe, their primary functions and physical body associations, common ways they each may express an imbalance or blockage and what might be the cause, and tips for promoting and maintaining their health. Please note that this is not a comprehensive list. I highly encourage you to seek out more information or professional services as needed or desired.
